Debunking Common Myths About MiraDry!

Ildikó Juhasz • February 1, 2021

Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is an affliction that doesn’t just cause discomfort and bad odor but also a lot of embarrassment for people who suffer from it. While many different deodorant products claim to curb underarm sweat, they don’t work for some people.

If you’re wondering how to stop armpit sweat permanently, then read on to learn about the advanced new treatment, MiraDry. MiraDry is an innovative way to remove sweat and odor glands from your armpits to ensure you never have to endure uncontrollable sweating again.

What is MiraDry?

MiraDry uses FDA approved, state-of-the-art technology and thermal heat to eliminate sweat glands permanently. A practitioner will apply a device to the underarm area, and gentle suction from the machine pulls the sweat and odor glands to the surface. The thermal heat breaks down the glands, which the body then removes naturally.

Not only does MiraDry aid with eliminating sweat glands, but it also removes hair from the armpit area, acting as a laser hair removal therapy at the same time.

While the procedure is non-invasive, it requires the use of a local anesthetic, and afterward, you may experience some swelling and bruising. However, this is entirely normal and will disappear after around 48 hours.

Myth 1: Removing Sweat Glands is Dangerous

Although applying thermal heat to your armpits may sound dangerous, MiraDry offers a safe way to remove sweat glands. Firstly, it is a non-invasive procedure. Secondly, unlike Botox, it is entirely toxin-free, meaning you aren’t inserting anything dangerous into your body.

While MiraDry does involve using heat, the advanced software ensures that your skin is not scorched during treatment. While the thermal heat breaks down your glands, the surface of your skin remains cool and protected.

Finally, removing sweat glands from under your armpits won’t negatively affect you. While humans need sweat glands to survive, we have these essential glands in other areas of our bodies to prevent overheating. Removing glands to stop underarm sweat won’t put you in any danger since only 2% of our bodies’ sweat glands are located in the armpit area.

Myth 2: MiraDry Is Not Permanent, Your Sweat Glands Will Grow Back

Unlike Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis, which needs regular top-up sessions, MiraDry does provide permanent results. However, to ensure that you get optimal results, it is best to have two sessions of MiraDry.

After just one MiraDry session, you’ll notice a big difference in terms of odor and underarm sweat. By having two separate MiraDry treatments, you’ll ensure that your armpits don’t ever sweat, even on the hottest summer days.

Myth 3: MiraDry Will Not Remove Odour

Underarm sweat often goes hand in hand with an unpleasant bodily odor. Fortunately, with MiraDry, you won’t need to purchase heavily scented deodorants to cover odors produced by sweating, as it effectively eliminates both sweat and odor.

Armpit sweat is caused by two glands; Eccrine and Apocrine. Apocrine glands are those which react with bacteria under the arm and cause foul odors. MiraDry effectively breaks down sweat glands, including Apocrine glands. Once the body has removed these, you’ll no longer notice the unpleasant scent that can come with sweating.
