How Do BOTOX Injections Work?
Repeated contractions of the muscles in our face are responsible for normal facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, and squinting. These expressions are initiated by a signal being sent from our brain, through our nerves to the muscles, directing them to contract. Over time, these contractions can cause what appear to be permanent wrinkles, lines, and creases in the skin.
The
BOTOX Cosmetic injection relaxes the muscles in the area, and temporarily stops the nerve from sending signals to the muscles which cause the facial contractions. By targeting the root of the problem, wrinkles on the face begin to soften and vanish over time.
What Is The BOTOX Procedure Like?
Depending on the number of areas being treated, the actual BOTOX Injection procedure can take as little 10 minutes. Most patients describe the treatment as painless, reporting only minor discomfort which feels like a light pinch. If this is of concern, a topical numbing cream can be applied prior to the procedure.
When Will I See Results?
Visible results can be expected within 3 – 5 days after the treatment with maximum reduction of lines and wrinkles resulting in about 2 weeks. The positive effects of BOTOX injections will generally last for 3 – 4 months, however, many of our patients still see the effects after 6 months.
Will My Face Look Like I Had Work Done?
Absolutely not. In fact the results of the BOTOX injection procedure are natural, subtle, and not obvious to others. You will likely receive positive comments saying that you look fantastic, however, nobody will ever know that you had any cosmetic procedure done.
Is There Any Downtime?
After the treatment, you can resume normal activities immediately with the exception of strenuous activity which can be resumed after 24 hours. Side effects are extremely uncommon, however, some patients experience minor bruising which will generally disappear within a few days.
Are There Generic Substitutes For BOTOX?
Although some companies make claims that they are comparable to BOTOX, there is no substitute. In fact, the FDA states that BOTOX cannot be interchanged, or substituted for another product. This means that claims regarding safety and effectiveness cannot be made by any other product.
