PLATELET RICH PLASMA THERAPY (PRP) FOR ACNE SCARS

PRP is a revolutionary treatment which uses your own blood to help to treat notoriously stubborn cases of acne.

PPlatelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) for Acne Scars

Are you considering platelet rich plasma therapy in Calgary?

Platelet rich plasma therapy can be highly effective for diminishing acne scarring — this cutting-edge procedure uses your own platelets to rejuvenate and stimulate the new collagen production. At Derm.ca, our PRP treatment is frequently combined with other scar treatment modalities to improve the appearance of acne scars.

PRP For Acne - Before & After

How does Platelet Rich Plasma therapy work?

Platelets are your body’s richest source of collagen-promoting growth factors. During the PRP procedure, a small vial of blood is collected. It is then run through a centrifuge to separate the red and white blood cells from the platelets.

Next, your own collagen-promoting growth factors are removed from platelets using advanced techniques in our certified laboratory. Afterward, the platelets’ growth factors are delicately placed at the optimal depth in your acne scars to help elevate indented scar tissue.

How are the best results from PRP achieved?

Often, platelet rich plasma therapy is combined with other procedures to improve the appearance of acne scars — no one single modality is “perfect” for treating this problem.

Collagen growth from PRP is not detectable for about six weeks. At that point, the Derm.ca team will decide if more PRP is necessary.

Am I a good candidate for PRP treatment?

If your acne scars are soft, indented and atrophic, you will likely be a good candidate for PRP acne scar therapy. To confirm that you are an appropriate candidate for the procedure, talk to us first during a complimentary PRP treatment consultation in Calgary.

How long does it take?

PRP preparation takes about 20 minutes (including the blood draw). The entire procedure takes between 30 and 45 minutes. It may take longer if additional procedures are administered at the same time.

Is it painful?

While it may come as a surprise to many clients, PRP therapy is not painful. If you are pain-sensitive, a numbing cream can be used 30 minutes before starting the procedure. If other treatments are combined with PRP, local anesthesia will be applied to ensure your experience is pain-free.

If you are seeking the best solution for your acne scars, there’s no need to spend your time searching for PRP in Calgary. Contact Derm.ca today for a free consultation.

HERE’S WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING…

“For years I had patches of discolored skin in my face and hands which seemed to get worse in the summer. I finally looked for a dermatologist and luckily found Dr. Alanen at Derm.ca. He explained to me that I had a condition called Melasma and recommended a few treatment options. I chose the laser method and now a few months later the spot are hardly visible. Thank you Dr. Alanen.”
