PICOSURE LASER FOR ACNE SCARS

Picosure is an incredibly powerful technology. It uses intense ultra-short pulses of energy to treat old acne scars. The energy from this device is precisely delivered through the epidermis and is absorbed by the underlying fibroblasts of the dermis; these are the cells which produce collagen. When these cells absorb this energy, they remodel the collagen matrix of the old acne scar.

Who is Picosure laser good for?

If you have old acne scars, this may be ideal for you. Every acne scar is different – we must see and feel the scar to see if this technology would be expected to work for you. Be aware that we may combine picosure with other modalities (e.g. subcision , platelet rich plasma therapy) to optimally treat your acne scars.

What are the advantages of Picosure as compared to other laser acne scar treatments?

Because the laser does not “cut” the skin, there is no downtime (unlike resurfacing laser, for example). It is not very painful (most patients don’t need numbing cream or anesthesia, in fact. All skin types – from fair to very dark and even tanned skin can have this procedure safely performed.

What are the disadvantages of Picosure as compared to other laser acne scar treatments?

This is a very operator-dependant procedure. The best results only come from a very experienced laser therapist (we have performed hundreds of these procedures). Multiple sessions may be required (these are usually spaced a month or so apart…).

What can I expect during treatment?

The procedure takes about half an hour (the exact time depends on the extent and depth of the scars that are being treated). There is mild discomfort and we use full eye protection.

When will I see results?

Collagen growth / scar remodelling takes a minimum of four to six weeks.

How many treatments will I need?

On average, three to four sessions are required.

Primarily, BCC develops in individuals with more exposure to UV radiation from the sun or tanning beds; for this reason, it is far more common in those who spend a significant amount of time outside. Fair-skinned individuals, especially those with lighter eyes and/or naturally light hair, are also considered high risk due to their lower threshold for UV damage over time. Additionally, older adults face an increased chance of developing BCC due to a lifetime of possibly inadequate protection from the sun's rays. To think proactively about your health, it can be beneficial to weigh these risk factors carefully and use protective measures when engaging in outdoor activities. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is one of the most common types of skin cancer. While it is relatively easy to treat, it is important to know the risk factors associated with developing this condition. Knowing these risk factors can help you identify warning signs early, and receive prompt treatment if necessary. For starters, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sources such as the sun and tanning beds significantly increases your risk for BCC. How to Prepare for Laser Tattoo Removal at Derm.ca

Laser tattoo removal is a growing trend that many people are choosing as an alternative to other more permanent solutions. The procedure involves using a high-powered laser to break up the ink particles in the skin, creating tiny fragments that can be removed with minimal damage to surrounding skin tissue. It’s important to take the necessary steps to prepare for your laser tattoo removal session so it goes as smoothly and safely as possible. Pre-Treatment Consultation Before you can begin your treatment, you should schedule a pre-treatment consultation with your doctor or dermatologist. During this appointment, your dermatologist will review your medical history and examine the tattoo site to determine what treatments will be best suited for you.
