Bumps and Lumps

$250.00

Professional evaluation and treatment of various skin growths including cysts, lipomas, and benign lesions. Expert surgical removal when indicated using precise techniques.

Overview

It starts with a diagnosis, of course. There are myriad processes that can cause "bumps" under your skin. Most of these are benign non-cancerous cysts or lipomas. The dermatologist will evaluate each lesion to determine the appropriate treatment approach. Bumps under the skin surface are often not necessary to remove, but may be recommended for discomfort, recent growth, annoyance, or if there is concern for cancer.

Benefits
  • Accurate diagnosis of skin growths
  • Professional surgical removal when indicated
  • Peace of mind through expert evaluation
  • Minimized scarring with proper technique
  • Prevention of complications from untreated lesions
A Closer Look

Sebaceous cysts (epidermoid cysts) and lipomas form as "thickenings" under the surface of the skin. They are soft and mobile (not stuck to surrounding tissue) in most instances. Cysts and lipomas are very common and most such bumps are biologically innocent. Cysts form as a consequence of blockage of a pore of the skin and may discharge foul-smelling material. Because most pores are on the face, chest, and back, cysts are commonly found in these anatomic locations. Lipomas are overgrowths of adipocytes (cells of the subcutaneous fat) and can be found almost anywhere on the body. On occasion, cysts can become secondarily infected, which is readily treated with antibiotics. The removal technique is straightforward - the lesion is frozen with local anesthesia and then excised with a precise scalpel, followed by suturing.

Pairs Well With
  • Skin cancer screening for comprehensive evaluation
  • Cortisone injection for inflamed lesions
  • Medical facials for post-procedure care

FAQ

How do I know if a bump needs to be removed?

Any new, changing, or concerning growth should be evaluated by a dermatologist to determine if removal is necessary.

What's the difference between a cyst and a lipoma?

Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form from blocked pores, while lipomas are soft fatty growths - proper diagnosis requires professional examination.

Should I try to remove it myself?

Absolutely not - DIY procedures don't work and can lead to secondary infection. Professional removal is always recommended.
