Bellafill FAQ
What should I expect during and after treatment?
Treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Most patients experience minimal downtime—temporary swelling, redness, or bruising typically resolves within 1-7 days. Results are visible immediately and continue to improve over the following weeks as collagen develops around the microspheres. A skin allergy test is required before your first treatment to ensure you're not sensitive to the bovine collagen component.
Who is a good candidate for Bellafill?
Ideal candidates are adults 21 and older who want longer-lasting correction without frequent filler appointments. Bellafill works well on all skin types and colors. You may not be a candidate if you have a history of severe allergies, known sensitivity to bovine collagen or lidocaine, bleeding disorders, or tendency toward keloid scarring.
The healing process will take approximately 2 – 3 weeks at which time the scarring will be minimal. Piercing can again be performed; however, it is recommended that Dr. Alanen be consulted prior to doing so.
Why choose Bellafill over other fillers?
Many patients experience "filler fatigue"—the frustration of repeated appointments, discomfort, and cost associated with temporary fillers. Bellafill offers proven 5-year effectiveness, backed by the largest and longest prospective dermal filler study ever completed. Clinical studies show patient satisfaction rates as high as 99% for acne scar correction and over 90% for volume restoration.
How long does Bellafill last?
Bellafill has been proven effective through 5 years for correcting nasolabial folds (smile lines) and 12 months for acne scars—far longer than temporary hyaluronic acid fillers that typically require touch-ups every few months.
How does Bellafill work?
Bellafill contains two key components: a smooth collagen gel (80%) that provides immediate volume, and PMMA microspheres (20%) that create a supportive scaffold beneath your skin. As the collagen gel is naturally absorbed over time, your body produces its own collagen around the microspheres, maintaining your results long-term.
What does Bellafill treat?
Bellafill is FDA-approved to treat nasolabial folds (smile lines that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and moderate to severe atrophic acne scars. It can also be used to restore volume in the cheeks and mid-face, enhance the chin, and address tear trough hollows.
Is Bellafill safe?
Yes. Bellafill has been proven safe through 5 years in the largest and longest prospective dermal filler study ever completed. The PMMA microspheres are made from a biocompatible material that has been safely used in medical implants and devices for over 65 years. Bellafill is safe for all skin types and colors.
When will I see results?
Results are immediate—you'll see improvement as soon as you leave the office. Over the following weeks, your results will continue to improve as your body produces new collagen around the microspheres.
