STRETCH MARKS

The Derm.ca team has helped thousands of patients reduce the visibility of stretch marks using a variety of new advanced treatments.

Stretch marks are most common in women who have experienced extreme weight loss, weight gain, or have recently undergone a pregnancy.

Extreme changes to the skin cause the support structure in our skin, collagen, and elastin, to break down leaving unsightly red, purple, pink, reddish-brown, or dark brown, stretch marks once the skin repairs itself. In some cases, stretch marks can become extremely itchy.

Although stretch marks are considered scars, and cannot be permanently removed, we at Derm.ca have helped thousands of patients reduce the visibility of stretch marks using a variety of leading-edge treatments.

What Are Stretch Marks?

A stretch mark is a type of scarring that forms as a result of the skin stretching and in turn, shrinking. During this process, collagen and elastin, which are responsible for maintaining the structure of the skin break down. When they repair themselves and the skin begins to heal, scarring develops taking the form of a stretch mark.

The severity of the stretch marks is directly related to a family history of stretch marks, the amount of stress the skin was subjected to, and the length of time the skin was stretched. Additionally, the amount of cortisone, a naturally occurring substance in the body, which can weaken fibers in the skin play a role.

How Do I Identify Stretch Marks?

Not all stretch marks look the same, and vary based on the cause, body location, skin type, and duration of the condition.

Following is a list of patterns which are common signs of stretch marks:

  • Indented streaks or lines in the skin
  • Pink, red, black, blue, or purple streaks
  • Bright streaks that fade to a lighter color
  • Streaks on the abdomen, breasts, hips, buttocks, or thighs
  • Streaks covering large areas of the body

We recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our medically trained specialists for a full assessment.

HERE’S WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING…

“Ok…I finally made the decision to get rid of my stretch marks and what a great decision it was. After having two kids I would not but on a bathing suit, let alone a bikini. I just came back from a family vacation and I lived in my bikini for 2 whole weeks – no embarrassment! Thanks, Derm.ca for getting rid of my stretch marks.”
